Q. I can not start recording.
A. For ESDR machines, check that the Hard Drive is fully inserted into the unit, that the lock is turned, and that the green drive light is on. If you still can not record, power down the DVR, unlock and remove the hard drive, then reinsert and lock it again.
Q. I can not stop recording on my DVR.
A. In the Timer Menu, make sure that all schedules are set to OFF. When this is done, exit from the menu and press the Stop button.
Q. Do I need to stop recording to do a play back?
A. No. The EDSR series can playback while recording. ONLY EDSR400H recording needs to be stopped.
Q. I am recording on motion, but only getting a few hours of recording time on my Hard Drive.
A. If you are recording on motion only, you will need to activate the Permanent Record option in the Record Menu. Set Permanent Record to ON and select a lower speed than the Alarm Record speed. (If you are connected on a network, 0.5 IPS is the lowest recommended setting) After exiting from the menu, make sure that the REC light is constantly on. This feature is only available on EDSR 1600/900/600/400F with firmware version 1.09 or higher.
Q. I can not stop recording.
A. Make sure Permanent, Motion, Alarm, and Timer recording are all set to OFF. Then exit from the Menu and press the Stop button.
Q. Can I schedule motion recording on my EDSR?
A. Motion recording must either be set on or off. It cannot be assigned to a schedule on the EDSR.
Q. I have motion enabled but the DVR is not recording any video.
A. This is how to set up Motion Only Recording. Enable motion for your cameras. Enter Camera settings. The normal record column is the CONTINUOUS recording speed. The event column is the MOTION recording speed. Set the normal record speed to 0 IPS. Set event record speed anywhere from 1 to 30 IPS. Exit out of the menu and press record.

Q. When I zoom in I can go only right and left how can I go up and down?
A. To go up and down press the Enter button. To go back to right and left, press it again.
Q. How can I change to a different number of viewing screens?
A. By pressing the Mode button you can go through the different screen options.
Q. How can I select different cameras in different quadrant?
A.Press the Select button and then press the desired camera button in each quadrant to display that camera in the quadrant.

Q. I am getting a PROCESS FAIL….PLEASE FORMAT MEDIA message.
A. The disc needs to be a DVD+RW. There are 2 preformatted DVD+RW discs supplied with the DVR. If you purchase your own DVD+RW you will have to install INCD5 from the Nero Essentials cd that is supplied with the blank discs. The DVR manual has installation instructions in the appendix.
Q. What kind of device can I use to archive video on the DVR?
A. You can insert a Compact Flash memory drive into the DVR's compact flash card port on the front of the unit. The compact flash card brand must be SanDisk or Kingston.
Q. I get an "CF not ready" error while trying to archive video.
A. The compact flash card is not connected to the DVR correctly. This message indicates that there is no compact flash card.
Q. I get a "CF Timed Out" error while trying to archive video.
A. This means that the compact flash card brand is incorrect. The compact flash card brand must be SanDisk or Kingston. The DVR may not be recognizing the compact flash card. Please format the compact flash card in the system settings of the DVR.
Q. How can I erase everything from my Flash card?
A. You can erase you flash card by using your computer through the card reader. If you are using the EDSR400H, you can also use the CF Format option in the System Setting Menu.
DVR OPERATION:
Q. How does the system password work?
A. In the System Setting Menu, change the Password option to "enable" and then exit from the menu. There is a display on the bottom of the main screen that will show level 1 (guest). If it displays level 3 (admin) then hold down the select button until level 1 displays.
Q. How long should "Load System" be displayed after rebooting?
A. The Load System message should disappear after no more than 1 minute.
Q. How can I find out what version of software I have on my DVR?
A. For EDSR 1600/900/600/400F, you will find the software version in the Clock Menu. For the EDSR400H/100H/110, you will find it under System Setting Menu.
Q. How can I upgrade my DVR with current version of software?
A. You can upgrade your DVR from firmware upgrade If you have an older version of the software, call our tech support line and get more info if you need multiple upgrades.
Q. My EDSR 400H's screen shows "Wait SB download FPGA," what should I do? (EDSR400H only)
A. It means your EDSR400H needs a software update. If you restart your DVR the message will go away; however, the message will eventually appear on the monitor again if you don't update your DVR. Check here for the most current version software.
Q. How can I change between viewing screens?
A. By pressing MODE you can go to different viewing screen.
Q. How can I select different cameras in different quadrants?
A. You can press the SELECT button and then press the desired camera button to display the desired camera in the quadrant.
Q. My camera pictures seem bright and/or washed out.
A. Make sure that all cameras are connected on the second row of video connections (input), not the top row (output).
REMOTE VIEWING:
Q. The Remote Viewer does not load up when I try to connect. Why?
A. Please update the version of Java from Java.com on your machine.
Q. How can I go to full screen mode over the network?
A. To switch to full-screen view, click on the single square in the bottom-right section of the screen.
Q. On full screen mode how can I change to a different camera over the network?
A. Once you are on the full screen mode, you can right-click on the screen and select the camera that you want to see in full screen.
Q. What's the default user name and password for the DVR over the network?
A. The user name is "admin" (lower case), and the password is "admin".
Q. How can I change my default password for remote viewing?
A. You can change your user name and password in the Password section of the Network Setting Menu. After changing user name and password, exit completely from the menu and restart your DVR.
Q. What do Play and Live mean?
A. The Live option will allow you to view the live camera feed only. Play will allow you to both view live and playback.
Q. Will my anti-virus software cause any problem for remote viewing (McAfee port blocking issue)?
A. Most antivirus programs do not interfere with our network viewer. However, some versions of McAfee will block port 6666, and some spam-blockers do the same. The quickest solution is to temporarily disable these programs while connecting to the DVR.
Q. What is the maximum cable distance for RS-485 communications?
A. The maximum recommended distance of 24AWG RS-485 cable is 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) without repeaters.
